ALTEE Thomas Mason Altee, 84, passed away on July 24, 2013. A native of Jacksonville, Thomas was born December 13, 1928 to Owen and Sarah Foy Altee. He is a graduate of St. Leo Prep School, a letterman and is in the School Hall of Fame. Thomas also attended the University of Florida, where he played basketball for two years. Ultimately, he graduated from the University of Mississippi. Thomas proudly served his country for 20 years as a U.S. Naval Officer, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
He was a founding member of the Pablo Creek Mullet Smoking Society, Jacksonville Beach Councilman, member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, a Paul Harris Fellow and a past president of Jacksonville Beach Rotary Club. As a member of the American Red Cross Volunteer Lifesaving Corps, Thomas was credited with many lifesaving rescues. He was also an avid golf and tennis player at Selva Marina Country Club. Thomas wrote the My Turn column for the Beaches Leader.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Nettinelle Mickler Altee and survived by their children Thomas Mason Altee, Jr., Priscilla Bowden Roland (Brad), Camillus Ann Brown, Michael Lawrence Altee (Nicole), Mary Lorraine Beale (Gregory), Andrew Howard Altee and Theodore Owen Altee. Thomas is survived by his wife of 47 years, Earlene Roberts Altee, who brought to the marriage 2 children, Lisa Baine Donoho (Jim) and Earl Roberts Austin (Susie). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and his sister, Betty Altee.
A memorial service will be held 11am Tuesday, July 30 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 435 1st Ave N. Jacksonville Beach, FL.
