Services for Jack Eubanks Vernon will be 10:00am Wednesday August 7, 2013 at Central Christian Church in Killeen with burial to follow at Killeen City Cemetery. He was born October 14, 1927 in Holland Texas and passed away August 2, 2013 in Harker Heights.
Mr. Vernon is survived by wife; Jackie, son; Scott Vernon and wife Michelle, daughter; Vicki Vernon Davidson and husband Russell, grandchildren; Ethan Vernon, Alexandra Vernon, Carter Lauck, Cameron Lauck, and Malcolm Davidson, 3 nieces and 2 nephews.
He was preceded in death by father; Louia E. Vernon, mother; Athol J. Eubanks, brother; Louia E. Vernon Jr., and sisters Dorothy Vernon Bounds and Luann Vernon Cook.
Jack was employed by First National Bank in Killeen for 34 years, retiring in 1987. He was the first manager of the new First National Bank South Facility. He served the community by serving on the KISD School Board for twelve years; held numerous admin offices in the Exchange Club to include president; United Way Director and Treasurer; life member of AUSA; member of Killeen Masonic Lodge #1125 AF & AM; Military Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Commerce; Salvation Army Treasurer; on the Board of Directors for Killeen Boys Club; and Elder and Chairman of the Board of First Christian Church; as a member of the Board of Trustees of Central Christian Church and was selected as a Comanche Gap Medicine Man of the year in 2007.
Jack was a sports fan, especially those involving his son, daughter and grandchildren. His favorites were KISD schools and the University of Texas at Austin; attending as many games as possible. He loved coaching Scott during his little league baseball days and enjoyed Vicki’s dance recitals and baton twirling in the KHS Band.
