Heimlich, Marion M. CLAIREMONT -- Beloved mother, grandmother and great- grandmother Marion M. Heimlich has passed at 92 to join her husband Edwin J. Heimlich in Heaven. She was born in Mt. Vernon, NY and she passed of natural causes on August 9, 2013 in Carlsbad, CA. She met her late husband during World War II at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii where she was a Navy RN and he was the skipper of LCI Gunboat 559, back from combat in the Pacific. After the war they settled in San Diego raising two children, Judy and Richard. She worked part time at Mercy Hospital and later at Sharp Hospital in maternity. Marion and Ed were married over 50 years. Marion was an avid walker, a longtime Clairemont resident, bridge player and supporter and lover of animals, especially the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park. She and Ed were past president of the SD chapter of the Wally Byam Airstream Club and traveled to Alaska and many other destinations with the group. She is held dear in the hearts of her children, grandchildren Tami, Ashley, Ian and Michelle, their spouses and great- grandchildren Kristine, Kylah and Riley. Ed and Marion are honored on Mt. Soledad Veterans Memorial with granite inscriptions and engraved photos of them as Navy Lt. jgs. Hers states: "She answered her country's call- Served the wounded - Met her love at Pearl - A mother who made San Diego a better place." She will be interned at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery with Military Honors on September 6th at noon. In lieu of flowers, please donate in her name to the Zoological Society of San Diego.
