Donald (Don) Gary Selden, 42, from DeWitt, Michigan, was given his angel wings on Wednesday, August 28, 2013. Don left for work as usual for his job as a Motor Vehicle Operator for the State of Michigan, Vehicle and Travel Services. Later that morning, he was in a tragic accident along I-96 in Oakland County, Michigan.
Don was born on August 27, 1971, in Lansing to mother, Doris M. Selden (Kelly) and father, Gary R. Selden. He graduated from J.W. Sexton High School in 1990 and previously worked at Paramount Coffee, Shaw’s Enterprises, MPC Cashway Lumber, and L&L Shop-Rite. Don had just celebrated his 42nd birthday the day before his death and was a fun-loving man with a ready smile and loved his family more than anything! He was a loving and devoted son, husband, father, and friend who took great pride in sharing stories about his family! He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being in the outdoors. Don was an avid bowler and spent much time in the bowling alley where he met his wife Jami. He took pride in all that he did, whether helping a neighbor, parenting a child, coaching t-ball, or working. Don was active in the Work of Heart foster/adoption/kinship support group in Clinton County.
Don was preceded in death by his daughter Michaela and uncle Rich Robbins.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 12 years, Jami Lyn (Getzen); daughters Sadi, Taylar, Savanna, Kaylee and son, Emerson; mother, Doris M. Selden; father, Gary Selden; special parents Jim and Carol Shaw; sisters, Tammy Atherton and Deanna (Neil) Granning, brothers, Mark Selden, Brian (Wendy) Selden, and Allen (Shannon) Shaw; mother-in-law, Roxie Wilkins; and father-in-law Jack Getzen. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends including Chad and Niki Tefft and family, Pat Miller, Marc Mowry and many poker pals.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, 3827 Delta River Drive in Lansing with Rev. Melanie Baker and Rev. Lori Sykes officiating. Family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Washington in DeWitt and one hour prior to the service at church on Wednesday. Those desiring may make contributions to the Don Selden Family Memorial in care of Lake Trust Credit Union, 12750 Escanaba Drive, DeWitt, Michigan 48820, in memory of Don.
