Services for Kenneth G. “Pete” Franklin, Sr., 87, of Pollok, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 9, 2013 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Carrier officiating. Interment will follow in Gann Cemetery.
Mr. Franklin was born August 25, 1926 in De Leon, Texas, the son of the late Florence (Fuller) and Charlie Franklin, and passed away September 6, 2013 in a local hospital.
He attended school in Rocky Hill. In 1944, he was drafted into the Army and served under Gen. MacArthur. Upon his return in 1946, he joined the National Guard and was sent to Korea, where he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He married Margie Jo Carson in December, 1956. He was sent to Vietnam and retired from the military in 1971. While in the service, he lived in Germany, France, Alabama and numerous other states. He moved to Pollok and worked with the Angelina Tax Office, was a pasture rider for the paper mill and retired from Purolator Courier. He really enjoyed working with his Marchigana cattle, hunting, fishing and being with his dogs, Buddy and Buster. He was an officer in the Marchigana Cattle Association. Mr. Franklin was a member and deacon of Pollok Baptist Church. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #915 for 58 years and 8 months. He loved his family, especially the grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Margie Jo Franklin of Pollok, son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Gerald Franklin, Jr. and Geralyn of Etoile; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy Ann (Franklin) Lewis and Randy of Lufkin; grandchildren, Tanner Franklin, Jace Lewis, Josh Lewis; sister, Hilda Mann of Nacogdoches; brother and sister-in-law, Fred S. Franklin and Suzie of Lufkin; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, J. C. and Mary Crawford of Pollok and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brother, Jack “J. D.” Franklin and sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Odell Cates.
Pallbearers will be J. C. Barnett, Allen Cates, Tommy Crawford, Steve Crawford, Daniel Fenley, Jace Lewis, Tanner Franklin and Josh Lewis.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
