Sydney Tibbetts passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at home after a prolonged battle with cancer. She was born Sydney Lynn Carlson on October 26, 1949 in Santa Monica, California and was raised in the Montclair/Upland area. Sydney graduated from Upland High School in Upland California. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Regis University, Denver, Colorado; and her Master’s degree and Educational Specialist degree from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Sydney has worked in sales, service and management. She has owned her own business and worked for over 20 years as a teacher in the Victor Valley High School District and the Hesperia Unified School District.
Sydney had a passion for travelling, whether it was one of the frequent RV trips with her husband here in the US or cruising through Europe, she loved seeing new places and meeting new people. She loved to read and loved doing crafts including sewing, knitting, quilting and scrapbooking. Sydney had a passion for animals, and became a puppy raiser for Guide Dogs of the Desert, an organization who provides and trains service animals for those in need.
Sydney had a strong spirit and a never quit attitude, believing she could accomplish anything she wanted to do. She inspired her friends and family with her strength and compassion for others. There never was a child or animal in need that she didn’t find a way to help, often bringing both into her home to nurture and love.
Sydney is survived by Kert, her husband of 43+ years; son Matthew Tibbetts; daughter Stacey Sabin; 5 grandchildren, Makayla, Jamie, Lauren and Aidan Tibbetts and Willie Sabin; her mother, Lynn Blees and her brother, Darryl Carlson. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, 30 grand nieces and nephews and a host of friends whose lives have been enriched by the opportunity to know her.
Because of her love of animals and helping people, and her passion for the Guide Dogs of the Desert program, Sydney’s wish was that her friends and loved ones would donate to sponsor a dog in her name, and to be given her name to provide a legacy of giving and service that would last for years to come.
