Native Houstonian John W. Blakeway Jr. 74, died on December 26, 2013 at his home in Conroe, Texas. A memorial service will be held Monday, December 30, 2013 at 12:30pm in Cashner Colonial Chapel in Conroe, Texas. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Cashner Funeral Home. John W. Blakeway Jr. was born December 18, 1939 in Houston, Texas to John W. Blakeway Sr. and Elsie Blakeway. John enlisted in the US Navy in Houston in 1957. Chief Blakeway was a veteran of the Cuban and Dominican Republic crisis. He was a marine mechanic assigned aboard the USS Sabine, a fleet oiler operating off the US East Coast. He completed two around the world tours and later became a recruiter in Baytown, TX before retiring on April 1, 1986. John worked for Rexene/Lyondell for 20 years before retiring to Conroe, TX with his bride, Jeanette Johnson Blakeway. They enjoyed over 14 years of family and friends in the Conroe community. John was an active member of the San Jacinto Corvette Club for many years where he enjoyed his passion for cars and racing. He enjoyed spending his summers at Gator Motorplex in Willis, TX, watching his son-in-law dirt track racing. He spent the fall season rooting for his beloved Houston Texans. He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. Blakeway Sr, Elsie Blakeway of South Houston and his brother-in-law, Pat Ryan of Alvin. John is survived by his wife Jeannette Johnson Blakeway and a combined family of 7 children: Lisa Edwards and Laurie Blakeway, Carolyn Overstreet, Sandra Gartman, Joseph Johnson, Lorie Robinson and Joy Williams; 16 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; sister, Ann Ryan of Alvin, TX and two nephews, Daryl and Jim Ryan.
