Dave was loved by his parents, Bessie Sargent and David Watts, his older sister and brother Lessie and Isaac Sargent, his twin sister, Danielle Sargent and his niece, Victoria McDonald. Dave was also loved by his grandmothers, Barbara Watts of Truro, MA and Kay Sargent of Seattle, WA as well as his large extended family including many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Born on September 22, 1987, Dave fought a courageous battle with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, living twice as long as expected. He graduated from Nauset High School in 2006 with the support of Joy and Amy Caporello. Following this, he attended Cape Cod Community College with the support of Keli Gates.
Dave was a proponent for equality for all people everywhere, especially the little guy. He was not afraid to speak up for what he believed in; political causes, preserving the environment, and even every day right and wrongs.
A writer and talented artist, Dave especially loved to create poetry and draw dragons. He was a lover of singing, dancing and music. A supporter of underground hip-hop, he championed and believed the hopeful message of artists such as Immortal Technique and LowKey. His other hobbies included playing Halo on XBOX and enjoying interesting and exotic foods.
Dave was an inspiration to all who met him, bringing awareness to the injustices of everyday life that were often ignored. He enjoyed a good debate as he was extremely passionate about his beliefs. He could also bring a room to laughter with his sense of humor, silliness and infectious giggle.
A celebration of Dave's life will be from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at the Eastham/Orleans Elks Lodge at 10 McKoy Rd in Eastham, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of David J. Sargent to Charley's Fund, an organization dedicated to fighting Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy online at http://www.charleysfund.org/.
