Born September 7, 1930 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late George Eugene and Lela Ester Sigmon Fisher. He was a member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Claremont where he was a former member of the church council and president of the congregation. He also was involved with the men of the church and helped with Vacation Bible School. Mr. Fisher was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of American Legion Post 48. He retired after a 35 year career from General Electric, where he worked as a supervisor. Mr. Fisher enjoyed dancing and camping.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Milton Wayne Fisher; sisters, Hazel Hilton and Jewel Huffman; and his cat “Babe”.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Shirley Carpenter Fisher of the home; daughter Denise Fisher Arndt and her husband Gary W. of Claremont; brother-in-law, Jim Carpenter of Claremont; niece, Linda Ann Sipe and husband Jerry of Maiden; great nephew Todd Sipe and great niece Amy Brown; and special friend, Joe Towery.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Rev. Dr. Gary Haddock and Rev. Paul Christ will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 48.
Pallbearers serving the family will be Rupert Little, Gene Tucker, Charles Tucker, Keith Tucker, Aaron Carpenter, Mark Carpenter, David Carpenter, Don Carpenter, Jason Carpenter, and Josh Sigmon.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the Family Life Center of St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
