Mr. Cook was born December 19, 1936 in Bartley, WV, son of the late Lela C. Cook and Gracie Dameron Cook. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps on August 23, 1959 after proudly serving his country. He was Baptist by faith and worked as a coal miner for many years and was talented with many trades.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Jane Webb Cook; daughter Paula and Steve Wyatt; son, Raymond, Jr. and Kimberly Cook; grandchildren, Alyssa Wyatt Boring, Stephanie Wyatt, Megan Cook, and Joshua Cook; great-granddaughter, Emma Boring; sisters, Betty Minnick, and Naomi Lawson; brothers, Ted Cook, Lela Cook, Bob Cook, and Jim Cook; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will gather to receive friends on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014 in the McEwen – Mint Hill Chapel with Stanly Co. Hospice Chaplain, Ron Honeycutt and Dale King Officiating. The nephews will serve as pallbearers and burial is to follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Hospice of Stanly County for their compassionate care over the past weeks. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the your local humane society in memory of Raymond Lee Cook.
