Jack L. Burton, age 78 of Gardendale passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2014. Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading westerns and war books, but he mostly loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, brother, father, and grandfather who was loved and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his son, Gary L. Burton. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Donna P. Burton; son Larry C. Burton (Mary Ann); daughter-in-law, Patty Burton; brothers, Virgil, Wayne (Verbie), and Gary (Ruth) Burton; grandchildren, Cara Martin (Jamie), Larry Burton, Jr. (Heather), Emily Chapple (Kevin), Lindsey Hodges (Terry), and Daniel Graham (Sandy); great grandchildren, Samantha Hodges and Devin Hodges; 24 nieces and nephews. Jack was a proud veteran of the US Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict. After serving his country he went to work for Hayes Aircraft (PEMCO). He then worked for nearly 40 years in the masonry block business, working for SuperRock, DeMarco, and Grasselli Block Companies. After retiring he went to work with the cities of Gardendale, Morris, and Kimberly as a building inspector.
Chapel funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 22nd at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, 35071 at 2 PM with a visitation from 12 noon until service time. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Gardens with Masonic Rites.
