Lowell Odell Culver, 90, passed away on March 18, 2014. Lowell was born on April 3, 1923 near Lebanon, Indiana as the only child of Orval B. Culver and Mary E.J. Culver. He grew up on a farm and attended a one room school house. He graduated from Flint Central High School in Michigan in 1941. He then joined the Army Air Corps and trained as a B-17 Flying Fortress co-pilot reaching the rank of Second Lieutenant. He ultimately was stationed in England in 1944-1945 and flew many missions over Germany as part of the 398th Bomb Group. He was involved in a life saving incident in April 1945 as the plane's engine caught fire and he successfully landed the plane in Western Germany and saved an injured crewman.
After WWII, he attended Michigan State University and graduated with a Business degree in 1949. He married Audrey Vincent that fall. He had a successful career in the automotive floor mat industry at Buick and then at Pretty Products in Ohio for 28 years, first in Sales and then in Physical Distribution Management.
He moved to Plano, Texas in 1980 and was a Charter Member of the Grace Presbyterian Church and several service organizations such as Rotary, Masonic Lodge, Hospice volunteer, and Shriners. He attended Rotary meetings in over 25 foreign countries. He was always willing to help and enjoyed a good conversation. He enjoyed travel, bowling, golf, square dancing and Basset Hounds.
Lowell was preceded in death in 1997 by his wife Audrey after 48 years of marriage. He is survived by his daughters, Suzanne Culver Collie and husband Grif of Dallas and sons Christopher and Clayton, Cynthia Culver of San Antonio, and son Timothy Culver and wife Shanna of Frisco and daughters Clarissa Brockway and Cayla Brockway. Tim has a step daughter Stephanie Wickes from a previous marriage.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday March 22, 2014 at the Grace Presbyterian Church in Plano TX at 10:00 AM followed by a reception. Interment will be at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions can be made to the Collin College Foundation 3452 Spur 399 Suite 429 McKinney, TX 75069.
