Helen Gregaitis, 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Superior Residences in Lecanto, Florida. Helen was the youngest of ten children, born to Joseph and Christiana (Chovanec) Matzura. She was predeceased by her first husband, Tony Porzi and second husband, Captain Alphonsus Gregaitis; brothers, Joseph, Michael, Andrew, Stephen and sisters, Mary Kriskie, Catherine Redlitz, Verna Tomesko and Christina Derkacs. Helen is survived by a sister, Anna Tripodi of Clifton, New Jersey; nieces, Elizabeth Kriskie of Washington, D.C. and Diane Jones of Hardwick, New Jersey; nephews, Michael Matzura of Cave Creek, Arizona, Joseph Redlitz of Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, Joseph Tomesko of Bloomfield, New Jersey, Raymond Tripodi of Wayne, New Jersey and many great nephews and great nieces, all of whom she loved and adored.
Helen was born and raised in the tiny coal mining town of Mt. Carmel, Pennsylvania. She terminated her schooling early to care for her ailing mother. After marriage to her beloved Tony Porzi, she moved to Clifton, New Jersey, where she and Tony worked for many years at Continental Can Company in Passaic. Upon retirement, they returned to Pennsylvania, where they lived in Elysburg until her husband’s death. Helen met Captain Alphonsus Gregaitis with whom she enjoyed many years of joyful marriage living in Lehighton, Pennsylvania and Hernando, Florida. Helen was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania. Helen was a lively, vibrant woman with a terrific smile and laugh, who loved to dance, play golf, travel and socialize. She was one, who truly loved life to the very fullest. Helen will be sorely missed by all, who had the privilege to know her.
Visitation, Monday, March 31, 2014 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Fero Funeral Home in Beverly Hills, Florida. Funeral Mass will take place at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church with interment following at Sky-View Memorial Park in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania.
