The family, friends and associates mourn the death on May 7, 2014 of Paul B. Horsey, Sr., 91, at the Rex Rehab Center in Apex, NC. He was a former resident of the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Delaware and then the Northern Virginia/ Washington DC Metro Area, where he had numerous retail furniture, decorator and waterbed stores trading as William's Wayside Furniture. Paul was born in Denton, MD, May 25, 1922 to Grace Hubbard Horsey and Edward Pennington Horsey.
Paul graduated from Bridgeville, DE High School and immediately went to work for DuPont Nylon Plant and then was drafted into the US Army Medical Administrative Section. Upon returning home, he completed two years Business Training at Beacom College, then started a career in retail furniture with Scott's Furniture in Bridgeville, DE. In 1957, Paul left Delaware for Virginia where he continued his 50 year career in the furniture business by owning and operating furniture stores in Triangle, Woodbridge, Springfield and Alexandria. After his son Paul, Jr. decided to enter a new career, they closed out the last store in 2002. Paul, Sr. and his wife Mary Ann then retired to Daytona Beach Shores, FL where they had owned numerous condos since 1975.
Paul is survived by his daughter, Lynn Eddington Horsey McDaniel and her husband Stewart of Wilmington, NC; three granddaughters, Erin & husband Rev. Tim Catlett of Holly Springs, NC; Fallon & husband Jesse Morga of Apex, NC and Leigh Anne & husband Patrick Costello of Woodbridge, VA.; and one grandson, Paul B. Horsey, III and wife Candice. He also leaves six great grandchildren, Breanna, Coleman, Kaydence, Campbell, Harper and Ava. Paul was predeceased by his son Paul B. Horsey, Jr. in 2006 and by his wife of 62 years, Mary Ann Eddington Horsey in 2011.
Paul was a 50+ year member of both the Hiriam Lodge AM&PM Mason, Seaford, DE and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, a Charter Member of Nur Temple Shriner of Delaware, Past President of the Southern Home Furnishings Association, a past winner and a member of the committee for the Willis Award of the SHFA, was on the Executive Committee of the National Home Furnishings Association, past member of the American Legion, the Kiwanis International, the Lions International, past president of the Veteran's and Businessman's Club of Daytona Beach, FL., a member of the Halifax Yacht Club in Daytona Beach for 20 years and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Port Orange, FL.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Apex United Methodist Church in Apex, NC on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 2:00 in the afternoon.
