James “Jim” William Mayfield, age 81 of Gardendale, AL went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, June 7, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Lucille Mayfield; a brother, Eugene Mayfield; and a sister, Linda Mayfield Bishop (Lewis “Red”). Jim is survived by his loving family, his wife of 62 years, Nancy Jane Page Mayfield; his daughters, Cathy Mayfield Mayhew and Barbara J. Ferguson (Jeff); grandchildren, Stephanie Ferguson Hays (Brandon), Randy Ferguson, Christie M. Ferguson, Michael Mayhew (Brittnie), and Allyson Mayhew; 3 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jill “Angel” Mayfield; and close special friends, John Salyers, Randy and Suzy Wilkerson, Scott Benefield, Opal “Sister” Cheatwood, Mike and Susan Erwin, and Joyce Couch. Jim was a graduate of Warrior High School. He served in the Air Force Reserve, retired from Southern Life and Health Insurance Co. after 40 years of service and from Briarwood Presbyterian Church with 12 years of service maintaining the print shop. Jim was also Past Master of Gardendale Masonic Lodge #907 and served as a Shriner. He faithfully served as Sunday School Director, Deacon as well as one of the founders of the East Gardendale Baptist Church.
Chapel services will be held on Tuesday, June 10th, at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel at 2 PM with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Gardens with Rev. Allen Davis officiating.
