Patricia Losaw Matthews, 79, of Newton went home to be with her Lord and her loving husband of 55 years, Jack, on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Catawba Regional Hospice after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. We surely understand why they call this disease the slow goodbye.
Born December 24, 1934 in Albany, New York, she was the daughter of the late Franklin W. and Genevieve Eunice Cheney Losaw. Mrs. Matthews retired from Jackson Lea. She loved to dance, enjoyed gospel music especially sung by Elvis, loved her family and she adored her dog Precious. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Newton where she was involved with the Care ministries and visiting shut-ins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Jack Matthews.
Survivors include her daughters, Donna Boone and husband William of Conover and Cindy Sigmon of Newton; son, Tom Matthews and wife Tina of Winston-Salem; grandchildren Brittany Lineberger and husband Bobby, and Colby Bolick and wife Jenna; great grandchild Kaden Bolick; and a brother, Franklin Losaw Jr. and wife Shirley of Charlotte, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Newton. Rev. Dr. David S. Greene and Rev. Willis Greene will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at Drum Funeral Home in Conover.
