October 23, 1957 – July 20, 2014
John, a resident of Salinas, passed away peacefully after his long struggle with cancer. John was a very kind, spirited and brave man, who understood the progression and treatment of his disease, but refrained from complaining.
John was an individual served by the Regional Center and was in residential placement most of his life. He had a great work history and kept himself occupied wherever he lived. He always strived to be as independent as possible and was consistently supported in that endeavor. For the past eight years, John worked at the Hope Work Activity Program in Salinas, where he recycled various materials from mattresses to computer parts. Everyone who met him was impressed with his kindness, motivation and sincerity. He learned basic skills, earned wages, enjoyed working and was willing to do whatever job was assigned to him. There was no malice in John.
John was predeceased by his mother, Ethel, to whom he was very close, and is survived by his brother, Jeff.
Special recognition needs to be made to the staff at Park Ridge, Hope Services, Pacific Cancer Center, PG Convalescent, Hospice of the Central Coast and the nurses and staff (who spoiled him) at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula for their kindness, support and care provided to John.
Private services have been held.
