He was born May 17, 1941, in Hollis Queens, raised in Freeport, New York and preceded in death by his mother, Florence (Clench) Tucciarone and father, Andrew P. Monestere.
Spike retired from the Nassau County Police Department as an Electrical Supervisor. He dedicated his life to the Freeport Volunteer Fire Department and proudly served as their Chief 1978-79. He was a member of several Firematic Committees in New York on the local, county, and state levels. He served as the President of the Board of Trustees at the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) Firemen’s Home in Hudson, New York 1998–2000.
Spike is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen (Halvorsen); his three children, Jeanette M. Darr, Patricia A. Stortz (Ronald), and Thomas A. Monestere; along with his grandsons, Nicholas and Christopher Darr, Ryan and Eric Stortz; and his great-granddaughter, Ashlyn Marie Darr. He was a beloved brother to Andrew C. Monestere, Joseph Monestere (Merrill) and the late John Monestere. He will be greatly missed by many but, especially his loving friends, Thomas Eiswerth, John C. “Chris” Darr, and his furry companion, Fred.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial donations on his behalf are made to the following organizations: FASNY Firemen’s Home, 125 Harry Howard Avenue, Hudson, New York 12534, or New Outreach Christian Center, 3900 Gossett Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28208, Attn: Pastor Brenda Stevenson.
A Memorial Service will be held in the Spring of 2017 in Freeport, New York. Hungerford and Clark Funeral Home will provide services and scheduling once the date has been finalized.
