Joseph Anthony Herbert, age 93, died peacefully on September 10, 2017. Joe was the founder and sole owner of Marquette Photo Supply. He was a continuous fixture in the Chicago Lawn community since November of 1944 until his death. Joe could always be found behind the counter of his store serving customers and making new lifelong friends. In his time he was appointed to the Commission for Health Planning and Resource Development by Mayor Richard J. Daley. He was also a Director of Southwest Bank, the President of the Chicago Lawn Chamber of Commerce and served as Chairman of the local YMCA board. Joe was very close to his church and had a particular bond with the Augustinian Order in the area. In his capacity as friend and photographer he traveled to Peru and photographed the Augustinian Mission there. Because of all his many contributions to the Augustinian Order he was made an Affiliate of the Midwest Augustinians. Joe is predeceased by his beloved parents, Elizabeth (Mausz) and Peter Herbert and brother Peter II. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara, nee Davis, as well as her children, Babette (David) Meiners and Owen Davis. He was the devoted brother-in-law of Marion (the late Peter II) Herbert-Fernandez, cherished uncle of Mary Ann (Jack) Scott, Peter III (Diane) Herbert and Carolyn (Kastytis) Ilginis. He leaves eleven great nephews and nieces and seventeen great-great nephews and nieces all of whom will greatly miss, but joyfully remember their “Uncle Joe”.
