Jarrell E. Beard, 68, passed away Tuesday, November 7th, 2017. He was born September 14, 1949 and grew up on the northside of Houston. After graduating from Sam Houston High School in 1968, he joined the Houston Fire Department in 1969. He proudly served HFD for 33 years, 3 months, and 3 days and retired as a senior inspector. He was a loving husband, father and his most recent and cherished role was that of proud grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Ruth Beard; brother, Darrell Wayne Beard; and nephew, Wesley Beard. Survived by his wife of 40 years, Camillia Beard; his daughters Jennifer Gunnels and husband Travis and Alissa Beard and fiance Larry Walker; grandchildren Jared and Lauren Gunnels; brother, Wendell Ray Beard; sisters, Sandra Harker and husband Ken and Sharon Divin and husband Leon; numerous nieces and nephews.
Jarrell was a passionate teller of stories and loved to talk to everyone. He never met a stranger, had a witty sense of humor, and loved visiting with old and new friends. Jarrell and his brothers had a knack for fixing things, especially old vehicles. Jarrell always had a project he was working on. He loved the outdoors, and spent many years fishing and hunting in Leon County. So much so, he and Camillia moved to “the farm” in Marquez, Texas after they retired.
In Jarrell’s life, his most joyful relationship was with his grandchildren. Being a PawPaw was what brought him a never ending source of happiness. He would light up every time he saw his grandchildren and loved to spoil them.
