Known as “Sister” to her family, Lucinda was born in Provincetown on Sept. 7, 1943, to David A. and Mary (Rose) Browne. She graduated from Provincetown High School and attended Burdett College in Boston. Lucinda worked in various positions for the John Hancock Insurance Company, Bonnie Doone Restaurant, Montano’s Restaurant, Town of Provincetown, Town of Truro and Sentry Bank. She was also the innkeeper of the Iva Tel Guest House at 8 Cottage St. for several years after the passing of her mother in 1984. She served as a member of the Provincetown School Committee and was a deeply faithful parishioner of St. Peter the Apostle Church. She participated in many of the activities at the Truro Council on Aging including the Memoirs class led by Rosalind Pace.
Lucinda loved reading and music, especially “Phantom of the Opera,” and impressed everyone with her intelligence, determination, sense of humor, generous spirit and fun-loving nature. The pride and joy of her life was her family, especially her grandsons.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her son, John David and his fiancée, Sheva Sparks-Russell and her daughter, Kaitlyn Russell of No. Truro, her grandsons, Brandon of No. Truro and Joseph of Lebanon, TN, her brother, John (J.B.) and his wife, Fran of Provincetown, her niece, Dayna of Arlington, VA, her cousin, Ellen Tavares Dutton of Baltimore, MD and many other relatives and friends. Lucinda was predeceased by her parents, her grandparents, Manuel S. and Lucinda T. Rose, her sister, Theda, her brother, David II and his wife, Judy and dear friend, Maxine Phillips. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Hope Hospice for the physical and spiritual care they provided and to Karen Dunn-Clark, C.N.A., for taking such good care of our beloved Lucinda during her stay at Seashore Point.
Family and friends are invited to a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 27, at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 11 Prince St., Provincetown. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
