Marjorie Ruth Empacher nee Paisner, 88, of Marblehead, passed away peacefully on February 27th, 2018. Marjorie is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Dieter Empacher, her son Ronald Berg of North Reading, daughter Janet Berg Dauray of Marblehead, daughter April Matteini nee Empacher of Miami, Florida, her five grandchildren, her sister Claire Paisner of New York, and many nieces and nephews both in the United States and in Germany. She will also be lovingly remembered by numerous close friends and colleagues.
Marjorie was born in Boston on April 5, 1929 to Philip and Hilda Paisner. She grew up in Newton. She graduated from Wheaton College in 1950 and went on to earn a Master’s degree from Syracuse University and later a Doctorate of Education from Boston University.
After teaching reading in Swampscott High School, Marjorie became a professor in the Education Department at Salem State University, where she taught for over 30 years. She specialized in adult literacy, helping countless people learn to read or learn to be teachers of reading. She was also active in the local community as a member of the Boston Yacht Club, Blue Water Sailing Club and the Rotary Club of Marblehead.
A joyful, passionate woman, Marjorie took pleasure in many things. She adored her husband and family. She was an avid reader, loved walking, sailing, swimming and travel, and immersed herself in everyday pleasures.
Private burial services were held in Marblehead. Arrangements by Eustis and Cornell of Marblehead.
