Carolyn F. Morris, age 86 of Clay, entered her eternal home on Friday, March 9, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 ¾ years, Danny E. Morris; parents, Arthur Cowin Franklin and Azie Dixon Franklin; eight older siblings: William Franklin, Lettie Franklin, Mildred Ruppert, Flossie Williams, Eva Grant, Augusta Franklin, Raymond Franklin, and Hilda Pope. She is survived by her children, Allen Morris (Melinda), Danice Wallace (Wade), Linda Samples (Harold), and Ronny Morris (Pam); grandchildren, Rossi Morris Carlson (Hardie), Lindsey Samples Harmer, Blake Samples, Mollie Morris Naylor (Adam), and Natalie Morris; along with a host of nieces and nephews. Carolyn grew up in the Fountain Heights neighborhood of Birmingham and attended Phillips High School. From an early age she attended church at the Birmingham Gospel Tabernacle where she developed a heart for missions. She was a long-time resident of Tarrant, Alabama, where she and Danny raised their four children, and the family were faithful members of the Boyles Baptist Church. Throughout that time she served as church hostess and taught Sunday school for 20 plus years. After a move to Clay, she attended the First Baptist Church of Chalkville. Carolyn was a devoted wife and mother, accomplished seamstress, and terrific cook. One of the greatest joys of her life was serving delicious meals and hosting large family gatherings. She gained a reputation among family and friends for her exceptional cakes, which were the centerpiece of many birthdays, weddings, and special occasions. You did not have to be around Carolyn long to know that she had a genuine, active faith and humble spirit patterned after Christ, whom she loved so dearly.
Her family will receive friends on Sunday, March 11, 2018, from 5-7 PM at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel with her service at the chapel on Monday, March 12, 2018, beginning at 1 PM. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritan’s Purse.
