He was born to the late Ossie and Rilla Baker in Worthville, Kentucky on January 7, 1928.
James was a member of Beulah Land Baptist Church in LaGrange, Kentucky, enjoyed fishing in Murray, Kentucky and was a Gideon.
He retired as Technical Sergeant from the United States Air Force and then retired from the FAA, having served as an Air traffic Controller.
Left to cherish the memory of James are his wife of 63 years; Dorothy Marie (Bryant) Baker, children; James Baker, Sharma Cobb (Grant), and Clarice Guillory (Lloyd), 11 grandchildren; Niesje Bishop (Brandon), Dustin Patton (Amanda), Rokeena Williams (Todd), Colton Clark (Amber Haakenson), Dakota Clark (Randi Kidd), Sequoyha Clark, Alyssa Elliott (Ezekiel), Heather Guillory, Luke Guillory, Hannah Guillory, and Mikayla Guillory, 9 great-grandchildren, sister; Gladys Baker and brother; Floyd Baker.
A funeral service to honor the life of James will be held at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home on Monday, March 16, 2018 at 11am with burial to follow at Valley of Rest. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5-7pm at the funeral home.
