She was born July 9, 1930 in Hebbronville, Texas to Lola Ethyl (Cagle) Ketchersid and John Gerald Ketchersid, and grew up in Central and West Texas. She studied Journalism at Texas Tech University and served as the Women’s Editor for Southwestern Crop and Stock Magazine. She married William Harold Gatlin on July 8, 1951 and they resided initially in Abilene, Texas where their two daughters Gloria Lynn and Cheryl Ann were born. The family lived all around Texas until 1966 when they moved to St. Louis, Missouri. Sherry was an active member of Christ Church Cathedral and worked as a medical transcriptionist for Washington University Medical School Department of Ophthalmology for 39 years. In 2006 she and Harold returned to Arlington, Texas joining their daughters and their families. They were active members of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church. She and Harold enjoyed traveling in Europe and South America and they danced on every occasion. Sherry’s other hobbies included amateur theatre, playing the piano, singing hymns and loving all of the family dogs—especially the blond cocker spaniels.
She is survived by her daughters Gloria Bender and Cheryl Shamburger, her granddaughter Lauren Skokan Priest and their families and many cousins.
Her memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 24th at 11:00 am at The Episcopal Church in Arlington, 305 W Main St, Arlington, TX 76010. A reception will follow.
