Pastors Vince Whittington and Jack Campbell will officiate. Collier Butler Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Daddy was the youngest child born to parents, B.H. Elrod and Pluma Trigg Elrod. He was the last remaining member of his family, predeceased by his parents, three brothers and five sisters, along with his wife, our sweet Mother, Clara Abernathy Elrod.
He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, the oldest male member. He was a farmer and worked all his life alongside his brothers, Jack and Mack. He was known for his beautiful, well cared crops. It gave him great pleasure to be able to share his garden with family and friends and did so until his last garden at 90 years old.
Daddy loved sports, especially stories of his community baseball games when he was young. He also enjoyed Alabama football and Braves baseball. Even though we had heard the stories about his games over and over, he and the stories will be terribly missed.
He will be buried next to Mother in the Lebanon community cemetery, Coats Bend, which he helped to maintain for over 25 years until he wasn’t able to.
Daddy loved his family, even though he may not have been comfortable to have voiced it, his family was everything to him.
He is survived by son, Vick and Brenda Elrod, daughter, Rita and Randy Holcomb; his much loved grandchildren, Bart Elrod, Brent and Lavada Elrod, Molly and Matt Phillips and precious great-grandchildren, Abby, Emma, Amanda, Caroline and Clara, along with many nieces and nephews.
We want to thank the staff of Gadsden Health Care, especially 7th Hall employees, Dr. Debora Reiland and the Alacare Hospice Team. We have been in the presence of many angels and do not have the words to express our gratitude for their love and care.
Also, special thanks to the Tape Ministry of Macedonia Baptist Church, Jean Patterson,
Pam and Donald Thomas, Jeff Sauls, and the ladies in the Missions Action Group, plus Larra Jones Wynn for Daddy’s never-ending cards.
Honorary pallbearers will be family, Lawrence “Goose” Couch, Gary Bolton, Joe Elrod, Michael Elrod and and friend, Pat Sherrill.
Potted plants will be accepted or memorials may be made in Daddy’s memory to the Tape Ministry of Macedonia Baptist Church, 2040 Macedonia Rd, Gadsden, AL 35901.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service, from 11:00 – 12:00 at the funeral home, with the service beginning at 12 noon. There will be no grave side service.
