Bonnie G. Burna, 71, loving wife of 50 years, mother and grandmother passed on April 29, 2018 after a fight with small cell lung cancer at McGraw Hospice in Jacksonville. Bonnie first came to the Mayport/Jacksonville area in 1978 with her husband, Richard, who was then stationed in USS FORRESTAL.
Bonnie and Rich met their freshman year in Greenwich High School in Greenwich, Connecticut. They started dating their junior year and were married May 11, 1968. While raising three children she obtained an Associate degree in General Business from Monterey Peninsula College and a Bachelor degree in Vocational Education from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. She was active in the Mayport area community serving as Finegan PTA President and USS FORRESTAL Ombudsman.
Bonnie is survived by her husband Rich; her three children, Candi, Jennifer and Richard II; and the joys of her life, her three wonderful and very talented grandchildren, Melanye Burna, William Tice and Samantha Tice.
The Burna family wishes to express their deep appreciation and thanks to all the doctors, nurses and support staff at both Beaches Baptist Medical Center and the Anne and Donald McGraw Center for Caring (Community Hospice) for making Bonnie’s final days with them peaceful and comfortable.
In lieu of flowers it is requested that donations be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St. Johns Bluff Rd. N., 32225.
