James "Devon" Dennis, a longtime resident of Mobile County passed from death into eternal life on May 11, 2018 at the age of 78. Mr. Dennis was born in Philadelphia, MS and moved to Alabama as a young boy to eventually graduate from Vigor High School. He served his community by working for the City of Prichard where he began as a Fire Fighter and rose through the ranks to Fire Chief and ultimately Public Safety Director before he retired. In his spare time, he enjoyed Alabama football, hunting, fishing, cooking, traveling, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by father, Luva Dennis; mother, Velma Lee Dennis; and brother, Pike Dennis. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Brenda Williams Dennis; his children, Ashley Jones (Randy), Kelly Dennis, Lisa Dennis (Michael Tramel), and Jennifer Kelly (John); sister, Margie Dennis Shell (John); grandchildren, Matthew Jones (Caroline), Melissa Jones Williams (Chase), Lauren Kelly, Paige Kelly, Seth Putnam, and Tate Putnam; and great grandson, Grant Williams.
Our heartfelt thanks go out to Dr. William Shulte and the ICU staff of Springhill Memorial Hospital for the loving and compassionate care given during his illness. Our family will be forever grateful.
Mr. Dennis' service will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Radney Funeral Home, Saraland. Visitation will occur Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Rev. Taylor Morgan will officiate.
