Helen Holmes Arthur, 102, of Trussville, quietly and peacefully passed away at home on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. Helen was born on Feb. 21, 1916 in Clay, Alabama. At the age of 2, Helen’s family moved to the East Lake neighborhood where she grew up and spent most of her adult life. Helen was a graduate of Robinson Elementary School and Woodlawn High School where she met her later to be husband, Fred. Helen loved her family, gardening, and was an avid fan of Alabama football and the Atlanta Braves. Her entire family will always cherish their memories of their beloved “MawMaw.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gurley and Elzie Holmes of Palmerdale, AL; her sister Billie Cather of Fort Worth, TX; and her loving husband and life partner of 68 years, Charles Frederick (Fred) Arthur. She is survived by her son Fred Arthur Jr. (Nancy) of Center Point, AL, daughter Nancy Dorr (Bobby) of Trussville, AL, and son Larry Arthur (Sophie) of Trussville, AL; 6 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation and Celebration of Life Gathering will be held Saturday, May 19 from 9:00 am – 10:30 am at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel, 1500 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL. Graveside Service will follow at 11:00 am at Forest Hill Cemetery, Birmingham, AL.
