Berene passed away at her home at the age of 93. She was born May 21, 1925 to Bernie and Irene McConnell at Henderson, CO. The family moved to the McConnell family dairy farm at Lyons, CO when she was 2 ½. She remained in Lyons graduating from high school and then working for Leo Niner at the Lyons Lumber yard until her marriage to Wm. C. “Drake” Sullivan. Upon her marriage to Drake in March 1949 she moved to his family farm east of Boulder where she remained until her death 69 years later.
She lived a very full life being a homemaker, mother to 2 children, Rosamond and Wm. Floyd and other interests. She was asst. secretary at Douglas Elementary for several years. Because of her love of bird watching she spent several years banding birds for the gov. doing migratory studies. She also became interested in health products and started her own business. Her biggest joy was doing genealogy, with her family being pioneers in the Lyons area.
She is preceded in death by husband “Drake”, brother Herb McConnell and sister Violet Betz.
Her family includes daughter Rosamond, son Floyd (wife Jill), granddaughter Megan, grandson Patrick, sisters Lavern Johnson and Sharon McConnell, brother Byron (wife Sharon), brother-in-law Albert Betz and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at Crist Mortuary in Boulder on Thursday, June 21st at 5 p.m., with viewing starting at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lyon’s Redstone Museum, Box 9, Lyons, Colorado 80540
