John Richard Hoggard, Jr. 78, of Raleigh NC passed away on June 11, 2018. Mr. Hoggard was born in Portsmouth, VA. on January 3, 1940. He was preceded in death by his parents John Richard Hoggard, Sr and Helen Latham Hoggard. He married the former Edith Ann Midyette of Virginia Beach on July 3, 1965 at Grove Park Baptist Church in Portsmouth, VA.
Mr. Hoggard served in the United States Army and was stationed in Orleans, France. After his Honorable Discharge he returned to Portsmouth and worked at the Virginia Department of Highways. He continued his education in Computer Science at ECPI. After completing his education he became a computer analyst for both MCI and the Federal Government in Washington D.C. When he retired in 2000, he moved to Florida with his wife.
Mr. Hoggard played the clarinet in high school, and played professionally in the Army Band, always earning his "pro pay". The stories he would tell his family always made them laugh.
Mr. Hoggard is survived by his wife, Edith; his son, John Richard Hoggard, III; his daughter, Melanie Louise Ragsdale, her husband Michael "Rags" Ragsdale, and his grandchildren Shenandoah "Shay", Jake, Brandie, Victoria "Tori".
Family and friends will be remembering Mr. Hoggard's life at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home located at 1701 E. Millbrook Rd. on Friday, June 15, 2018, at 1:00 pm. There will be a private interment at Raleigh Memorial Gardens. The family requests that donations be made to the Parkinson's Foundation in remembrance of Mr. Hoggard's life in lieu of flowers.
