Annie Laurie is survived by her children: John W. Sims (Laura), Annandale, VA; Anne Marie Schilleci (John), Helena, AL; Kenneth L. Sims (Cindy), Mt. Pleasant, SC; Jane S. Massengale (Bill), Trussville, AL; Alice S. Deason, Hoover, AL; Nancy S. Donahoo (Rex), Boise, ID; Dan T. Sims, Vestavia Hills, AL; and Robert L. Sims (Lisa), Hoover, AL. as well as her brother Don Littlejohn, Indian Harbor Beach, Melbourne, FL. She was preceded in death by John L. Sims III, her loving husband of 65 years; James H. C. “Pete” Solley, Sr., her first husband and fallen pilot in World War II; daughter, Martha S. King, Athens, GA; son, James H. C. Solley Jr., Elizabeth City, NC; her 2 brothers and 2 sisters, grandson, William Scott King of Atlanta, GA; granddaughter, Jane Ellen Sims, Vestavia Hills, AL and great- grandson, Foster Reed Turner, Helena, AL.
Annie Laurie was born on October 18, 1923 in Columbia, SC to John N. and Nell W. Littlejohn. She spent her entire life devoted to her family. She enjoyed playing piano and traveling to locations that were most special to her, in particular, taking her children on family trips to the beach each year. She was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church in Birmingham, AL. At her death, Annie Laurie Sims was the cornerstone of an extensive family group consisting of 10 children, 32 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to give thanks to Jackie Shepard and Pearl Forbes, her dedicated caregivers for 6 years; we are extremely grateful for their love and support. Sincere appreciation is offered to the staff of 2 North at Fairhaven Retirement Community; 3 South at St. Vincent’s Hospital; and Compassus Hospice & Palliative Care for their support and care.
A funeral service is scheduled at Elmwood Chapel for Sunday June 17, 2018 at 2:00 with visitation an hour prior to service. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
