Concepcion “Concha” O. Maldonado, 91, passed away on July 3, 2018, and was reunited with her husband of 65 years, Demetrio, her parents, Apolonio and Silveria Olivas, and her siblings. She was born in El Paso, Texas, and attended Beall Elementary School and was a proud Bowie High School Bear, Class of 1946. Mom was a loving, playful and adventurous mother and grandmother who was our first teacher. She taught us our ABCs as well as how to play baseball, shoot marbles and play jacks. Mom made newspaper kites, repaired broken windows and electrical wires while whipping up delicious meals and desserts. When possible, she continued to watch baseball games and golf tournaments as she used to with Dad. It was love at first sight when she met Demetrio Maldonado at Liberty Hall where they danced to the music of the Xavier Cugat Orchestra. Mom was a master seamstress working for Singer Sewing Machine Company as an instructor and for Cloth World where her beautiful creations were displayed. Her designs were one-of-a-kind works of art. She is survived by her sons, Armando and Victor Maldonado; daughters, Laura Ramirez, Irene Lowenberg (Miguel), and Ana Maria Arenas (Pete); grandchildren, Ana Lisa and Robert Portillo, Stephanie and Jordan Maldonado, Dr. Christine Maldonado-King (Paul), Matthew Maldonado, Michael Lowenberg and Christopher Arenas and great-grandchildren, Michael Jimenez and Eleanor Mabel King. We are grateful to Dr. Aime Serna for her care and guidance. Special thanks to our extended family, the nurses and staff at The Bartlett, for showing Mom so much affection and compassion; she loved being one of your Sopranos. We are forever grateful to Willy Olmstead and the nurses of Hospice of El Paso for their tender and loving care. Visitation will be at Martin Funeral Home Central from 5:00PM to 9:00PM, and Rosary Vigil at 7:00PM on Tuesday, July 10, 2018. Funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at 10:00AM followed by interment at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
