Wayne’s History
Wayne was born on March 18, 1922 to Shirley F. and Modeste Pouppirt on Quivas St. in Denver, Colorado. He had two brothers Modeste and Flecher. His family later relocated to Parker, Colorado to farm. He graduated from Parker High School in 1939 a year ahead of his classmates. Shirley Pouppirt was a teacher and superintendent for Douglas County schools. His father died when he was 16 years old from a farming accident. Wayne was drafted to join World War II from 1942 to 1946 and served with the Army in the Ozarks - 102nd Infantry Division. He met his first wife, Katherine C. Pouppirt through his lifelong friend, Keene and they wed on June 21, 1942. They had two children, Wayne Jr. and Sherry Kay. Wayne and Katherine lived in North Denver together for 28 years. Katherine passed away on December 16, 1970 at the age of 46.
Wayne worked at Gardner Denver for 30 years before retiring from Rocky Flats in 1988. He married his second wife, Delphine B. Pouppirt on November 26, 1978. Wayne and Delphine were members of Valley Lutheran Church and served as President of the Church Council. They later became members of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Northglenn. They were married 34 years before Delphine's passing on January 6, 2012. Delphine had two sons David and Chuck from previous marriage.
Wayne is survived by his children Wayne Jr. and Sherry Kay and his grandchildren Christopher, Julie, Janelle, and Jason.
We will miss and remember him rooting for all the Colorado sports teams, lovingly tending to his lawn and garden, working as a handyman helping anyone in need, taking trips to the mountains with his family and friends, and a humorous story teller to anyone who would listen. He is well loved and cherished by many.
