Born in Middleport, Ohio, she developed a love for music and started playing the violin at the age of 5 with a half-size instrument. She graduated from Muskingum College with a degree in Music Education, and then taught music at elementary schools in Cincinnati.
She met her husband, William Eaton, at a summer camp in Maine where they were both counselors. They married in 1962 and were stationed in Stuttgart, Germany where Bill was an Army Officer.
After returning to the states, Margaret raised 2 children in Marblehead and enjoyed sailing often with her family. She continued her musical career playing her violin with the Bowforte Ensemble and the Salem Philharmonic. She also enjoyed painting at the Marblehead Arts Association.
In 1980 the family moved to Manhasset, Long Island. As a book lover Margaret returned to school and received a Masters of Library Science from C.W. Post University. She started her second career as a reference librarian at the Bryant Library in Roslyn, NY where she witnessed the disappearance of the card catalog and the arrival of the digital age of information.
Her beloved husband, Bill, passed away in August 1999. They treasured the many road trips they took together, traveling throughout New England and Canada. After retirement at age 72, she returned to Marblehead to live by the sea. Margaret continued to play the violin and enjoyed reading mysteries and working on daily crossword puzzles.
She will be dearly missed by her two children Mary and Will, and many relatives and friends.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date, and memorial donations can be made in her name to Friends of Abbot Public Library, 235 Pleasant Street, Marblehead, MA 01945. Arrangements by Eustis and Cornell of Marblehead.
