Graveside service for Peter M. Witherhead, age 66 of Morristown will be held at 12:00pm August 18, 2018 at Pine Hill Cemetery, Eel Weir Rd for family and friends. A Celebration of Life gathering will follow at 1:30pm at the Turner Inn, 8667 RR58, Morristown, NY for friends and family. Mr. Witherhead passed away unexpectedly on Sunday (Aug 5, 2018) as a result of an accident.
Surviving are his children Nathan Witherhead & his wife Diane of Brier Hill and Lindsay Cutway & her husband Jesse of Brier Hill; grandchildren Jonah Witherhead, Seth Witherhead, Cooper Witherhead, Vivian Witherhead; Brenten Henderson, Noah Henderson, Taylor Cutway & Austin Cutway; sisters Sharon Field, Elaine Hunter, Sue Barry, Jane Heuring, Nancy Brown and Betty Linson.
His sister Ruth Bogardus and brother Joe Farrell predeceased him.
Peter was born on May 12, 1952 in Ogdensburg to Guy & Kathleen (Barkley) Farrell. He was later adopted by Helen & Harold Witherhead. Following the death of his adoptive father, Helen was remarried to Alden Hurley who raised the family. He later married Sue Warren which ended in divorce.
During his career he owned and operated Pete’s Tree Service which operated in North Carolina from 1980 to 2013 and relocated to Upstate NY. He also built sound proof rooms with El Bair, helped build The Woodshed now known as Ella’s and assisted with the building of Turner Inn, where he also bartended for a period. Peter was a member of NRA, The National Arbor Day Association, Black Lake Fish & Game Club, Dry Forks Hunting Club and the Rocky River Coon Hunters Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, duck hunting, trapping and socializing with friends and family.
