Laurie was born on October 2nd, 1965 in Washington, Missouri to the late Stephen & Arlene Kohl Sokolowski. She graduated from Penn Yan Academy in 1983. Laurie went on to get her Liberal Arts degree from FLCC and worked at the Penn Yan Manor as a CNA her entire life.
Laurie was a one of a kind person, extremely unique, creative, with all the love to give in the world. She was free spirited, and to put it simply; she was a ray of sunshine inside of a human body. She made sure her family knew how much she loved them. Her boys and her granddaughter were her greatest achievements in her mind. She loved to brag about them or tell stories about her adventures with little Ava. Ava called her Grammie, and she wore that title with the most pride in the world. Laurie will be severely missed by her family, co-workers, the residents she took care of, and the friends she had throughout her life.
Laurie is survived by her 3 sons, Peter, Joshua & Matthew Thompkins; granddaughter Ava Thompkins; siblings, Rick Sokolowski, Cindy Woodard, Keith Sokolowski, Kyle Sokolowski, Michelle Sokolowski & Shirley Sokolowski. She was predeceased by her sister, Elgerine Marie Hemer.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, September 14th, 2018 from 3:00-5:00pm at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan, NY. A service for Laurie will take place immediately following calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Laurie’s name to the Penn Yan Manor Nursing Home, 655 Liberty St., Penn Yan, NY 14527.
