Peggy Ann McSpadden, born in West Union Iowa on July 30, 1937, passed away September 5, 2018. At the time of her birth, she was the smallest baby ever born at the West Union hospital and was not expected to survive. At age one she had begun to thrive but still did not crawl, and it was that tenacity that gave her over 81 years.
Peggy would go on to be joined by four more sisters. Her father, a Navy man from the time he was seventeen, eventually moved the family to San Diego, where Peggy would fall in love with the boy next door and in time marry Richard (Dick) McSpadden. The two would raise three children, Dave Bob and Sheri, which would lead to eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Throughout her life Peggy enjoyed sitting by campfires, cooking hot dogs on the beach, baking and supplying family treats at Christmas and enjoying long phone conversations with her Mom. She was an avid oil painter and later took up sculpting. Never to waste time, Peggy would become certified as an Emergency Medical Technician, teach typing at Vista High School and enjoy long careers in the construction and banking industries as a bookkeeper and accountant. She rarely met a cat she didn't like, nor a glass of red wine. Her love of fishing, both on the ocean or during many trips to Alaska, was usually less about the catch and more about eating the catch. She will be missed by all that knew her.
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents Mabel and Leon and sister Jackie.
