Daughter of the late George & Caroline Toponce, Joyce was born on October 10, 1936, in Livermore, CA. She grew up in Manteca and graduated from Fortuna High School in 1955. Joyce married Larry Brashear in 1953 and in June of this year they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Joyce and Larry raised their family in Carmichael and moved to Shasta Lake, near Redding, CA, in 1978.
Joyce worked for Coldwell Banker for over 20 years and retired after being diagnosed with diabetes. She faced and managed her disease for many years with practical determination.
Always kind and thankful, Joyce loved and was loved, by all her family. And what no mother should ever have to do, Joyce grieved the devastating loss of three of her four children, with courage and faith.
We will remember her love of animals, especially her beloved dogs. Walking with her dogs in the hills near her home was her favorite pastime. Most recently, Gracie, her seven year old Black Lab rescue, brought Joyce many hours of pleasure and joy.
Our Joyce, a faithful daughter, beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she will be missed always and remembered with love.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Larry Brashear, of Shasta Lake; daughter Jeanette (Johnny Lee) Zamrzla, of Lancaster, CA; and sisters Virginia Ryan of Boise, Idaho and Georgiana Thomas of Stockton, CA. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by three of her four children, Larry Brashear, Jr.; Sharon Williams; Tommy Brashear; and her younger brother, William (Bill) Ward.
Celebration of life will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at McDonald’s Chapel, (Redding Memorial Park) 1201 Continental Street, Redding CA 96001 at 1:00 pm.
