Claudette was a very active member and volunteer at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. She worked in the front office, the financial office and was instrumental in initiating the Chrismon tree for the Christmas season. She and her late husband, Thomas, who passed away in 2008, served as officers and flower judges in the Houston chapter of the Camellia Society. They also enjoyed the Houston Astros and followed them to many stadiums around the country. Claudette was an avid needle-worker, enjoying both cross-stitch and needlepoint.
Claudette was born in Elk City, Oklahoma on February 18, 1936. She also lived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and San Antonio, Texas. She received her undergraduate degree from Oklahoma State University and earned an MBA from Trinity University.
Claudette was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Marguerite Kline and her husband Tom Shelfer. She is survived by her stepsons and their families: Chris Shelfer (wife Carol) and their daughters Kimberly Christopher and Kari Galanos; David Shelfer (wife Lisa) and their sons Mark Shelfer and Brian Shelfer. There are eleven great-grandchildren.
The family is grateful for the many caregivers who gave their support to Claudette at Eagles Trace.
A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, in the chapel at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church or the American Cancer Society.
