Nan was born in 1939, to Harry John Brewer and Freida Mozelle (Elliot) Brewer, she found a friend in Wilma Gates of Pratt, KS, who was a devote Christian woman who prayed every day for Nan to be protected by God, to be called by The Holy Spirit into God’s Kingdom. At a very early age Nan did not know why, but she developed a sense that God was going to care for her and that He loved her and that He would carry her through all the turmoil surrounding her life. Only years later did she learn of Wilma’s daily prayers for her and in the mid-1960s as a young mother in Bryan-College Station, TX, she answered the call of the Holy Spirit and committed her life to Jesus as LORD and Savior. Her focus and purpose in life changed dramatically.
Nan’s parents were Harry John Brewer and Freida Mozelle (Elliot) Brewer. She had an older brother, John, now deceased. Nan had three children, a son Michael (wife Cheryl) of Deland, IL, a son Jeb (now deceased) with wife Linda of Des Moines, IA, and a daughter Kena Kathleen Muhlbauer (husband Thomas) of Earlysville, VA. Nan is survived by 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, and her husband, Ken.
Nan’s brother, John, ridiculed Nan and her faith most of his life, but as he neared death from lung cancer, he was willing to listen to her gospel presentation from her Gideon Testament and gave his life to Jesus as LORD and Savior. Thus, on Saturday evening, Nan now joins John and Jeb in the sleep of death in Christ to await the resurrection at Jesus’ return and receive their glorified bodies.
Nan developed two passions in her life activities. One was quilting. She participated in several quilting groups in Ames, IA, and went on Sew Great Tours with Nancy Thompson of Nevada, IA, to Houston, TX, to Sisters, OR, to Washington, PA, to Bennington, VT, to Madison, WI, to Des Moines, IA, and to Fort Dodge, IA, over the years. Nan enjoyed making quilts for wounded men and women veterans (Quilts of Valor) and also for women’s shelters. She also loved to teach Bible studies to women in various venues including several churches and the Gideon Auxiliary Ministry to women in the Story County Jail.
