Louis Steven Bruno, 60, passed away November 3rd while working with his friend Billy Ray at Bright Horizons Fellowship in Durham, NC. He was born July 3, 1958, in Frankfurt Air Force Base to Phil and Elaine Bruno of Long Island, NY. He was a loving husband to Christina Ann Bruno and father to two boys, Steven Bruno, 37, Davon Bruno, 32, father-in-law to Heather Bruno, and grandfather to Luke Bruno, 8 years old.
Louis, or Lou, as his friends knew him, joined the Air Force in 1978 and was stationed at Plattsburgh Air Force Base, where he met his future wife while out one night at a disco. They wed at Assumption of Mary Church in Redford, NY on February 16, 1980, and subsequently received an honorable discharge in 1982. Steven was born in 1981, they moved to Raleigh in 1984, and their second son, Davon, was born in 1986.
Lou retired from the Fire Department in 1996 after serving ten years, his time there constituting one of his proudest achievements throughout his life. Lou spent the last several years of his life working with Sunstate Security, where he loved patrolling and going on deployments to help people, and with his friend Billy Ray, with whom he did handywork for various clients.
Lou loved working in his yard and around his house, where he constantly stayed busy with odd jobs and working in his shop, which he built with his friends. He was an exceedingly lovable man with an outsized personality, and everyone he knew will never be the same now that he has passed.
There will be a memorial service held in his honor on Tuesday, November 6th, at 2 pm at Church Alive, 5309 Umstead Rd. Fuquay Varina, NC 27526. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Raleigh Fire Museum, P.O. Box 31084, Raleigh, NC 27622; https://www.raleighfiremuseum.org/donate/
