Maria Norma Estrada was born on October 30th, 1965 to Mercedes and Enrique Estrada. Born two months premature, she weighed only 5lbs at birth which later dropped to 4 and a half pounds. Despite the many obstacles placed before her, she proved her inner willpower was strong and overcame the odds. Even as an infant she was a fighter with a strong spirit. After spending her first month of life in the hospital, Norma’s parents were finally able to take her home, but complications resulting from her premature birth rendered Norma legally deaf in both ears. As a young child she attended Tulare Regional Auditory Educational Center, a school for the hearing impaired in Tulare, California. Although living with a hearing disability caused certain frustrations and hardships, Norma didn’t allow it to keep her from accomplishing her goals. She often joked of enjoying the ability of turning off her hearing aids and experiencing complete silence (especially in irritatingly noisy situations). Through her struggles she stayed light hearted.
Norma grew up in the small town of Earlimart, California with her mother Mercedes, older brother Henry and younger brother Alex. She attended Delano High School and later in life went on to Graduate from Bakersfield College in 2004. In addition to her degree in Electronics, Norma also was a licensed massage therapist and Graduated from Golden State Massage school. She became a small business owner in 2007 and originally opened her massage studio in Visalia, California which she later relocated to Delano, California. She was a successful massage therapist until 2010 when her medical conditions restricted her activities & she made the decision to retire in order to focus on her health.
Norma became a mother to her first child, Michael Estrada the day before her 19th Birthday. In 1985 she met the love of her life Gregorio Jasso who was her life long partner. A year later Norma’s second child, Felicia Jasso was born. Six years after, her youngest child, Veronica Jasso completed their family. In 2007 Norma received a new addition to her family when her son married Brittney Estrada but it would be another 7-½ years before she became a grandmother to her first grandchild, Michael Gabriel Isaiah Estrada Jr. Her youngest grandchild, Santino Israel Estrada, came just 23 months later and was born in 2016. Although she only got a few short years with her grandchildren, she poured enough love into their hearts to last a lifetime and as much as she loved her grandbabies, they loved and cherished her just as much. It brought her great joy to watch her grandchildren play and to hear their precious laughter. On days when she was feeling down a visit from her grandsons would always cheer her up.
Norma and her family resided in Earlimart, California until 2002 when They purchased their home and moved to Delano, California where she lived the remainder of her life. Everyone who knew Norma fell in love with her kindness and heart of gold. She was tender and caring but she was also strong and tough. As sweet as her demeanor was, she would not allow anyone to push her around or to take advantage of her or her family. As a young adult she was described as being a loyal friend who was down for anything and had your back if you were family or friend. She became an even greater force to be reckoned with as she got older. Maria Norma Estrada went home to be with the lord just 2 days after her 53rd birthday on November 1, 2018. She is survived by her mother Mercedes, Step father Jesus, & father Enrique, The love of her life Gregorio, Her three children Michael, Felicia, & Veronica, two grandchildren Michael-Gabriel & Santino, Daughter in law Brittney, Brother Henry & sister in law Carmen, Brother Alex & Sister in law Diane, Nephew Alex, Niece Brianna, countless cousins, aunts and uncles.
