Winnie Louise Sanders Burrous, 94, of Lufkin, was born July 27, 1924 in Angelina County, Texas to Mellie Modisett Sanders and Hiram Bell Sanders, Sr. She went to her heavenly home on Monday, November 19, 2018.
Louise married Dewey E. Burrous, her school sweetheart on February 13, 1943 in Pecos, TX. They returned to Lufkin when he was discharged from the service in 1945 and they enjoyed 69 years of marriage before he passed away in March 2012. She was a devoted wife, homemaker and stay-at-home mom to her two daughters, Rita and Cyndy. Louise was a respected 4-H leader and received the State 4-H Alumni Recognition Award in 1961. In 1968 she returned to college to complete her teaching degree at SFA. She taught in Lufkin ISD from 1971 to 1982, at which time she retired to spend time with her husband at their lake house, deer lease and to travel. She was a charter member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, member of American Legion Auxiliary and Texas Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include her daughters, Rita Bowers-Moravits and husband Victor of Lufkin and Cyndy Burrous Hall and husband Tim of Plano; grandchildren, Kelly and Jeff Corey of Krum, Jessica and Bobby Knight of Lufkin, Andrea and Travis Brown of Dallas, Alyson Hall and fiancé Andrew Whittlesey of Chicago, and Cory and Meghan Moravits of Denver; great-grandchildren, Dalton Windham, Kayla, Cameron & Brandon Corey, Halle and Timothy “TJ” Brown, Jake and Kelsey Knight, and Brandon and Regan Knight; siblings and in-laws, Loyce Fenley, Jewell Kirkland, Gaynell Thompson, Winnie Sanders, Jake and Shirlene Sanders; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Burrous was preceded in death by her in-laws, Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Burrous; son-in-law, Andy Bowers; brothers, Don Sanders, Carl Sanders, and Jim Sanders.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Frank Allen, David Bowers, Brandon Corey, Kirk Kirkland, Bobby Knight, Jake Knight, Tony Sanders and Dalton Windham.
Honorary Pallbearers will be W.C. Allen, Travis Brown, Donald Burrous, Private Cameron Corey, Sandy Kirkland, Ken McPherson, Charles Modisette, Steve Sanders, Malcom Sanders and Wenden Sanders.

Services will be held for Mrs. Burrous at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 25, 2018 at Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Steve Killam officiating. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, November 24, 2018 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Gipson Funeral Home.
