On Monday, the 19th of November 2018, Glenn Edward Mitchell passed away at the age of 88. He was the founder and namesake of Glenn E Mitchell and Co., the father of Andy and Bill Mitchell, and a loving grandfather to their children. A native of Knoxville, Glenn served in the Navy for 8 years and worked for his brother as an electrician before starting his own business in 1978. With the help of his oldest son Andy, his company “Glenn E. Mitchell and Co.” began working out of his home doing residential remodeling work, roofing, KCDC rehab projects and basically anything to get a foothold. Glenn grew the company over the years with hard work and a dedication to quality, moving from small remodeling work to construction of custom homes and small commercial jobs. Before long the business needed to expand and moved into a larger office with a shop and warehouse. Eventually, with his sons Andy and Bill taking on more responsibilities and shared ownership of Chris Hudson and later Jeff Williams, Glenn was able to go into “semi-retirement” and enjoy spending more time with his dear wife Martha as well as his grandkids. Today the small business that Glenn started in his home with 4 to 6 employees is now based in Blount Co., with an office in Franklin, TN as well and employs over 150 people doing commercial and industrial concrete projects across the Southeast. We strive to maintain his dedication to hard work and quality construction that he demonstrated every day. Glenn was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Martha. Glenn is survived by his two sons Andy and Bill, their wives Dana and Kim, and his four grandchildren Cody, Drew, Will, and Seth. He will be missed by many other friends and family members and those who proudly work at the company named after him. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 from 5 – 7 pm at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home, 2300 Adair Drive. The memorial service will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made in Glenn’s honor to Ben Atchley Veterans Home/Activities, 9910 Coward Mill Rd, Knoxville, TN 37931.
