Hilda was born on November 13, 1922 to the late George and Lula Ferrell. She grew up in the Carpenter community and attended Green Hope School where she met her late husband Roland Everett Carpenter, to whom she was married for 31 years. Roland followed her to Hardbarger’s Business College in downtown Raleigh, where she graduated with a business degree.
Hilda was preceded in death by her husband; her brothers, Millard and Omer; and a sister, Alene Ferrell.
Hilda is survived by two sons, Dale and Joel, and their wives Tresa and Terri. She is also survived by five grandchildren – Dale, Matthew, Olivia and husband Jordan, Joshua, and Casey – to whom she was lovingly known as Gran.
Hilda was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church for ninety-six years, dating back to her birth. She was an integral part of the Church where she helped start the vacation bible school program, taught Sunday School, and attended the Dorcas Bible Class.
Outside of Church, Hilda handled the book keeping for the Carpenter Farm Supply into her later years. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. Her quick wit and steadfast personality followed her throughout her life and have left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
