On October, 28, 1987, Amanda began her life’s journey. She was born to Dave and Gail Southern in Atlanta, Georgia. She was their “Miracle Baby” as the doctors did not expect her to be carried to full term or survive the birth. The Lord had other plans for Amanda. She was born completely healthy and one of the happiest babies you would ever want to meet.
She had an infectious smile and giggle that could light up any room. She was a very happy little girl who loved spending time with her big brother, her “Bubba”, Michael. He affectionately named her “Manda Panda”. They shared a very special relationship. They were not just brother and sister, they were best friends.
She graduated from Covenant Christian Academy in May, 2005 as Valedictorian of her Senior Class. During Elementary and Middle School, she played Basketball. However, in Middle School, her passion turned to Cheerleading. She was a Cheerleader for Basketball and Football Games and later joined the CCA Competition Cheer Squad. Also, in High School, she was a member of the Covenant Players Drama team and Editor of her Senior Yearbook.
In the fall of 2005, she moved to Jacksonville, Florida. She began working full time and taking online courses from Florida State College in Jacksonville. She graduated from there with an Associate’s Degree. While continuing to work full-time at Wells Fargo as the Work Director for Pre-Closure, she began taking online classes from Columbia College. She graduated Magna Cum Laude, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, from Columbia College in November 2013.
She loved spending time with her family, especially at the holidays. Thanksgiving and Christmas were her favorite holidays. Family and extended family were a very big part of her life. Every Christmas Eve, she would spend time with the Andersons. Those nights were filled with silly competitive games, lots of good food and lots of love and laughter. Christmas Day she would spend with her immediate family, G’Ma Flo, Aunt Ruby and Uncle Lee. Then the first Sunday after Christmas, she would go to Hiawassee to spend Christmas with her Papa, Nanny, aunts, uncles, and all her “Southern” cousins. She never wanted Christmas to end. But, amidst all the food and fun, she always wanted to be sure we remembered why we were celebrating Christmas – the birth of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
She loved to travel. As a little girl, her favorite spot was Disney World. As a teenager, she went on her first Carnival Cruise and she was hooked. After that, every year was spent Cruising somewhere new and enjoying many new adventures, such as climbing the Dunn’s River Falls in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.
Another passion of hers was shopping. Some would say she was a “shop-aholic.” It didn’t matter if it was going to the Mall or online shopping, she loved it all.
She loved spending time with friends for Taco Tuesday nights and Dollar Pizza Thursday nights. She loved her special “Mommy-Daughter” Days for mani-pedi’s and lunch. But, most of all, she loved her Georgia Bulldogs Football. She and her Dad would spend hours yelling at the television over the game. She was her Daddy’s baby girl.
On March 4, 2017, she married Matthew Getts. This was one of the happiest days of her life. They lived together in Jacksonville Beach and survived Hurricanes Matthew and Irma together.
On November 20, 2018, she stepped into Eternity to live forever with her Lord and Savior.
