Judy was born on September 22, 1941, in St. Paul, Minnesota, a daughter of Leora Marion Saunders and Elton Otis Hall. She grew up largely in St. Paul. Though she also lived in California, Illinois and for several years in Florida, she lived most of her life in the St. Paul area.
Judy married Dwayne Albert Sorenson on September 17, 1960, in Los Angeles, California. With Dwayne, Judy raised two children, Daniel and Julie. She loved being a mother and grandmother. Above all else, Judy loved her family and spending time with them, whether it was enjoying evenings at the beach in Florida with Dwayne; shopping or dining out with her kids; attending extended family gatherings, where she especially loved seeing all the children; or having coffee with her cousins.
Judy was a Christian who had faith in God. A lifelong Lutheran, she attended First Lutheran Church in White Bear Lake for many years. A real lady, Judy always had pride in her appearance and always looked nice. She had the ability to adjust to change and the curve balls life sometimes throws to make the best of a situation.
Judy loved people and animals. She was concerned about the people in her life, always asking them how they were with genuine interest. She had many beloved dogs over the years and loved them all, especially her last dog, Sandy the Golden Retriever. A lover of history, especially her family ancestry, Judy spent many hours at the Minnesota History Center researching her family tree. An expert seamstress, Judy enjoyed sewing and knitting. She loved reading the daily newspaper and shopping. A bargain shopper who could always find good deals, Judy wasn’t a big spender, but always optimized what she spent.
Educated in St. Paul schools, Judy was an alumnus of Washington High School. She worked at a number of jobs over the years, including as a bank teller for many years at the First National Bank in White Bear Lake.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings Donald Hall, James Hall and Patricia Rykel. She is survived by her son Daniel (Eric Shawcroft) Sorenson, daughter Julie (Mike) Zehoski and grandson Christian Tennyson, as well as by her brother Robert (Carole) Hall and many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
