Don was born on September 15, 1929, in North Birmingham to the late William Clarence Martin and Grace Worthington Martin. He attended North Birmingham Elementary and Phillips High School. Don was a long time member of North Birmingham Church of Christ. After high school, he served in the Air National Guard. Don worked for many years in the commercial glass industry. He was the owner of Central Glass Company, M & M Glass Company, and Gulf Coast Glass and Mirror. Don served as President of the Associated General Contractors in Alabama. He was a well-respected businessman in the Birmingham area.
Don is predeceased by his devoted wife of 63 years, Camilla Rose Martin.
Also preceding him in death are his siblings Peggy Martin Graham; Howard Eugene Martin; and Jerry Wayne Martin. Left to cherish his memory are his loving daughter, Donna Martin Key; grandson, Donald Brent Key (Danielle); and great-granddaughter, Harper Lynn Key; along with one sister, Annette Martin Mixon.
He was a member of Huffman church of Christ for 61 years. Don loved his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and special uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Don also enjoyed hunting, fellowship with his Eastwood Mall Gang, and college football.
A family only visitation will begin at 9:30 am on Thursday, December 6, 2018, at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel with a public visitation starting at 10 am. Funeral Services will begin at 12:00 noon with the burial following at Jefferson Memorial. Pallbearers will be Howard E. Martin (Sandy), Bryan Martin, Billy Ray Mixon, Sr., Billy Ray Mixon, Jr., Jake Kidd, Marty Graham, Justin Morrow, and Brian Adkins. We will miss Don dearly for his enthusiasm for life and love of family.
