Alice Catherine Conklin or “Py” was born in Alberta, Canada on June 8, 1918, the youngest of three siblings, Maurice, Grant, and Florence. Her family moved to McMinnville, Oregon. After graduation from Oregon State College and teaching for two years she enlisted in the Army Air Corps where she met her future husband, John Conklin in Washington, D.C. where they both worked in Air Transport Command. Alice and John moved to Phoenix in 1946. Here they started their family and Alice taught school in the Balz District for many years. In retirement she volunteered at Scottsdale Healthcare Auxiliary for 25 years, shopped and delivered food for the homebound through Vicap, played bridge in the Scottsdale Women’s bridge club, quilted and enjoyed time with John. When John died in 2016 Alice moved to the Springs where she cherished time spent with new friends. She died Monday, December 4, 2018 at the age of 100 due to heart failure. Alice is survived by her daughter Sandy of Scottsdale, Arizona, Stephen (Betsy) of Green Valley, Arizona, James of Stanley, North Dakota and Donald (Mich) of Lake Oswego, Oregon. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Amai, Eric, Steve, and Sam and her three great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Macy, and Max. Alice will be placed to rest at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Green Acres Mortuary & Cemetery, Scottsdale, Arizona.
